After Marshall Glickman announced his decision to step down from EuroLeague CEO positions, three candidates who could replace him have emerged.

According to Aris Barkas from Eurohoops, Anadolu Efes Istanbul general manager Alper Yilmaz and Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul general manager Maurizio Gherardini are among those who are being internally discussed as potential successors of Glickman.

BasketNews sources confirmed this information.

Contrary to Eurohoops claims, the third candidate is not former Zalgiris Kaunas's forward Paulius Jankunas. Instead, Zalgiris general manager Paulius Motiejunas is the third candidate on the list, BasketNews sources claim.

Yilmaz, 48, is a former player who spent all his career in Turkey, including six seasons with Efes. Just like Jankunas, Yilmaz stepped into the club's management straight after his retirement in 2009.

From 2009 to 2015, he was working in Efes as a sports director, while in 2015, he was promoted to the general manager position.

Yilmaz was named EuroLeague Executive of the Year in 2021, and 2022 after Efes won back-to-back EuroLeague titles.

Meanwhile, the 67-year-old Gherardini is the most experienced executive among this trio. The current Fenerbahce general manager worked for Benetton Treviso, Toronto Raptors, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Gherardini won the EuroLeague Executive of the Year award in 2017.

Under Glickman's leadership, the EuroLeague secured an ESPN broadcasting deal. The US media giant streamed the last week of the 2022-23 EuroLeague Playoffs and the entire Final Four in Kaunas.

The agreement also included broadcasting rights for the upcoming 2023-24 EuroLeague season as well.

Before becoming the CEO, Glickman had previously served as Bertomeu's special advisor from 2002 until 2004.

Glickman is also the CEO of G2 Strategic, a sports business consulting firm with clients in the US and Europe.
