Report: Knicks willing to offer multiple players, pick for Joel Embiid
The Philadelphia 76ers have hadyet another crazy offseason, with James Harden essentially pullinga Ben Simmons as he has been away from the team for the past week. While this has been annoying for Sixers fans, something even worsecould happen as a result.
Joel Embiid, the 2023 NBA MVP,has been mentioned in the rumor mill throughout the offseason. While the 76ers obviously aren't looking to move Embiid right now, rival teams are closely monitoring Embiid and whether he'lleventually want out of Philadelphia.
One team that's keeping an eyeon Embiid is the New York Knicks, who are preparing an offer forthe Sixers' big man in the event that he becomesavailable.
Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirerreports that the Knicks are willingto give up “three key players” and multiple first-round picks forthe reigning MVP.
Among the players available fortrade are Julius Randle, R.J. Barrett, Mitchell Robinson and EvanFournier. Despite the fact that this offer includes a formerAll-Star and rising star, it's very unlikely that the Sixers wouldaccept any package that doesn’t include Jalen Brunson. Other teamswould likely be able to beat this offer from the Knicks.
However, if the offer includedBrunson, perhaps a deal could make sense. The new starting five inPhilly would be Brunson, Tyrese Maxey, Barrett, Tobias Harris andRobinson. But with the Sixers already losing Harden in the nearfuture, the Sixers likely won't give up Embiid and completelydismantle their core in one year.
If the Sixers look to moveanyone other than Harden, it’s more likely going to be Harris, whois in the final year of his contract and earning $39,270,150 thisseason.
With that said, given Harden'sinevitable exit and everything going on in Philly, it wouldn’t besurprising to see Embiid request a trade by next season. He hasn’tseen any real postseason success with the Sixers and couldeventually get tired of their inability to make it past the secondround.
As of now though, there’s noreal concern about the Sixers losing Embiid.
