As a guest on the Rich Eisen Show, Crawford gave his thoughts from a veteran perspective on how Morant should proceed.
"The word I always look at when things happen is accountability. I think you have to look in the mirror. I've always said there are two people you can't lie to - yourself and God. I think you have to have one of those meetings with yourself first and foremost. You can say the right things and you can do some of the right things but your heart is not all the way in it," he said.
"I would look at some of the people in your circle that you're around. Just get solid advice, get solid things. There are so many kids that look up to all of us athletes, especially Ja right now - he's one of the kids' favorites. There's a certain responsibility that comes with being in this position, and that has to be upheld at all times," Crawford explained. "Mentally, go back to being a kid that just dreamed about being in this position. Now that you're here, you have to do things the right way and take full advantage of it in the right way."
Afterfirst getting caughtflashing a gun on an Instagram Live video and later getting suspended for it, Morant was seendoing the same thingonce again, forcing the club to suspend him one more time.
According to Sam Amico from Hoops Wire, league sources believe Morant will be suspended for no less than the first half of the season. It confirms theearlier information relayed by Adrian Wojnarowski.
However, Crawford believes that Morant can find the way out of the position he's currently in. To illustrate his argument, Crawford shared a story from the NBA bubble back in 2020.
"Basketball is one thing but let's take a look at off-the-court stuff and getting yourself together," the veteran told. "He seems like a really really good kid from what I know about him - or young man, I'm gonna call him kid - a really good young man, and then his last two years happened. He was the same person when I was in the bubble and I played, that was my last time. He was the same guy - people were making complaints about the food here, he was like 'No, we have food to eat, I have no complaints, I'm just happy to be here'. That guy is there, we just have to bring him back to the forefront."
