Serbia is on the verge of witnessing history as two of its most celebrated athletes -- Novak Djokovic and Nikola Jokic -- make waves in their respective sports.

Djokovic aims to secure his 23rd Grand Slam singles title, surpassing Rafael Nadal's record, while Jokic has led the Denver Nuggets to the cusp of their first-ever NBA championship.

Their mutual admiration and support for each other have further endeared them to fans worldwide.

"He's the guy who represents Serbia in a much bigger scene. He's the Serbian ambassador. He's the idol to the kids in Serbia not just for the things on the court but [also] for the things his foundation is doing," Jokic earlier said of Djokovic, adding that he doesn't have Nole's number. "I want to be like him."

Djokovic saw the social media posts, read the articles, and responded in the same manner.

"I don't think anyone can do what he's doing at the moment in basketball. He's definitely the best basketball player in the world," the tennis star underlined. "I cheer for him greatly, he's an amazing guy, he's the pride of Serbia, we're so proud of him, we hope he can win his first ring."

Even though Jokic hadn't had Novak's number, talking on the Tennis TV panel during the Roland Garros tournament, Djokovic shared that he recently received his.

"I'm flattered, honestly. I saw his interview a week or so ago, and I'm really grateful. We haven't been in touch, actually, I just got his number yesterday, so I'll text him. It's difficult to get his number these days. I want to text him to say thank you because he really touched me with his wonderful words," Djokovic said at that time.

Nikola Jokic revealed that Djokovic kept his promise and texted him.

"Actually, he texted me, for real!" Jokic said after a Game 4 win over the Miami Heat on Friday night. "Yes, he texted me. He didn't lie. I mean he is amazing in his sport, and he is making history every time.

"Probably he is one of the best ever if not the best ever. He has a nice opportunity to win another one, and he is just an amazing sportsman. Having him as a countryman that represents us in the world is a great honor. I think the people in Serbia are really happy that we have him as our countryman."

Djokovic has a chance for a career-crowning moment on Sunday -- a 23rd Grand Slam singles title, one more than Rafael Nadal -- if he could pull off a victory in the French Open Finals against Casper Ruud of Norway. The Serbian superstar enters the match as the clear favorite, poised to etch his name in tennis history.

Likewise, Denver is now in a pole position to win the NBA championship, the first in the franchise's history, having a 3-1 series lead. The Nuggets could seal the deal in Monday's Game 5 at their home arena.

Jokic had 23 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists in Game 4 to help to create this opportunity.
