Most recently, Griner was approached by a provocateur at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.

After the news broke out, the exchange was questioned by numerous people who saw it as an unfair trade.
Right-wing personality and YouTube creator Alex Stein approached Griner as she was walking down the airport and began to ask a series of questions regarding her past.
"Was that a fair trade for a Merchant of Death? I know you kill it on the court but he kills in real life," Stein said while filming himself and Griner.
Later on, Stein referenced Griner's earlier quote about the US anthem.
"I honestly feel we should not play the National Anthem during our season, I think we should take that much of a stand," Griner told Jeff Metcalfe from The Arizona Republic back in 2020 during the peak of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Griner's words were later mocked by some after news about her 9-year prison sentence in Russia was revealed.
"Do you still wanna boycott America?" Stein said during the confrontation. Moments later, Stein was pushed aside from Griner by one of her bodyguards.
On that same day, both the WNBA and the Phoenix Mercury released statements regarding the situation.
"The safety of Brittney Griner and all WNBA players is our top priority. Prior to the season, the WNBA worked together with the Phoenix Mercury and BG's team to ensure her safety during her travel, which included charter flights for WNBA games and assigned security personnel with her at all times," the league noted.
"We are committed to our support of BG and advocating for all American hostages abroad. We will continue our support of marginalized communities and fighting the kind of hate that targeted us today. No one, regardless of identity, should ever fear for their safety. We will be coordinating with the WNBA on the next steps," the Mercury announced.
