The 54-year-old signed a three-year deal with the club.
Earlier in the day, Vlado Ilievski was named the new sports director of the club, taking the role from Sani Becirovic.
Pianigiani has previously coached Montepaschi Siena, Fenerbahce Istanbul, and Olimpia Milan. He spent the last several years in China as part of the Beijing Ducks team as a head coach and a team consultant.
In 18 games in the EuroCup, the Slovenian club managed to capture just 3 wins and finished the season last in Group A, having the second-worst record in the entire tournament, second only toSlask Wroclaw.
The club parted ways with its head coach Jurica Golemac in March. Assistant coach Miro Alilovic was leading the team through the ABA League playoffs.
With 17 wins and 9 losses, Cedevita Olimpija finished the regular season in 4th place in the ABA League. The team's season ended after the semifinal round when they lost to Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade in a tight 3-game series.
Cedevita Olimpija then claimed their third Slovenian title in a row. However, Edo Muric tore his ACL during the last game of the season and will miss the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup.
