Gallinari tore his ACL just before the EuroBasket 2022 while playing for the Italian national team. With the recovery time for such an injury ranging from 6 to 12 months, the player had hopes of coming back to the active roster at the very end of the season if the Celtics made a deep playoff run but it never materialized.
After accepting the player option, Gallinari will earn $6,802,950 during the 2023-24 NBA season. The Celtics were granted $3.29 million during the last season as part of the Disabled Player Exception.
This was the second Gallinari's ACL injury with the first coming in 2013. He's averaged 15.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists on 42.8% shooting throughout his 14-year NBA career.
