Victor Wembanyama's club season is already over. The question now remains whether he will play for the French national team in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The team's head coach Vincent Collet tried to answer it.

After Game 3 of the French League (LNB) finals against AS Monaco, Collet was asked about the young phenom's chances of playing for his home country in August. The specialist didn't clearly specify it but provided an honest answer.

"I'd like him to play a lot since there are the Olympic Games after the World Cup [next year]. I think he wants it as well. This World Cup is a launching pad [for him]," he said. "The World Cup experience would prepare him best for his entry into the NBA."

"I hope we can collaborate with his franchise. We know them a little [already], I received congratulations from the GM by the way," Collet revealed. "It's important because he would play against the same players he will meet next year [in the NBA]. This was not the case in the Betclic Elite. At his age, the [game] experience cannot be replaced."

France is placed in Group H in the World Cup together with Latvia, Canada, and Lebanon. The teams will compete in Jakarta, Indonesia.
