Zylan Cheatham has agreed to join the New Zealand Breakers on a one-year contract, as reported by Olgun Uluc of ESPN. The 27-year-old athlete makes his move to New Zealand after completing his rookie season in Europe with FC Bayern Munich.

American power forward Zylan Cheatham has reached an agreement to join NBL's New Zealand Breakers on a one-year contract, according to Olgun Uluc of ESPN.

The 27-year-old Cheatham leaves FC Bayern Munich after his rookie campaign in Europe, playing in the German Basketball League and EuroLeague.

Having previously competed in five regular-season games for the New Orleans Pelicans and the Utah Jazz between 2019 and 2022, Cheatham has predominantly developed his skills in the NBA G-League.

During the 2022-23 season with the Birmingham Squadron, the Pelicans' G-League affiliate, Cheatham averaged 13.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

He then arrived in Munich until the end of the season, where recorded 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 12.3 PIR over six EuroLeague games.

His best EuroLeague performance came in Round 33 against Real Madrid, posting 20 points and eight boards.

Despite Cheatham's solid contributions, Bayern had a disappointing season. The German powerhouse failed to make the EuroLeague playoffs and the domestic championship final.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Breakers finished as runners-up in the 2022-23 NBL season, losing the best-of-five series against Sydney Kings, 2-3.
