However, they're still constrained by the current contracts, hence, the motion will not fully start this year.
"There won't be a great reduction in the budget due to our current contracts," he said. "I don't think that the budget can be reduced too much. Also, if you want to be a dominant team in the EuroLeague, you have to go over a certain limit. We'd like to thank our sponsors and the Anadolu group for this. They did not leave us in a difficult situation for a single day."
"Of course, all Turkish teams are struggling but we have to spend a certain amount of money for success in the sports universe that we're living in. We've never diminished our goals," Yilmaz continued. "We're always in search of new players, we're looking for names that are open to development. Some of our transfers this year have been in this direction. We can make those kinds of transfers after the contracts expire next year. We want to downsize."
Efes currently have three of the Top 10 highest-paid EuroLeague players.
Yilmaz also revealed that both Shane Larkin and Vasilije Micic have NBA options in their contracts, and the club is waiting for their decision. The deadline for the option is July 20th.
"Micic really wants to go to the NBA," the GM said.
