Credit:After 20 seasons at the highest level of European basketball, Spanish referee Daniel Hierrezuelo is retiring.
The veteran official has called a total of 448 games, 340 in the EuroLeague and 208 in the EuroCup. In the EuroLeague, he has called 22 playoff games, five Final Fours, and two championship games.
Hierrezuelo will not completely retire from basketball, though. Together with announcing the teams of the 2023-24 season and the introduction of the play-in tournament, the EuroLeague announced that the now-former referee will work in the organization.
He will replace Richard Stokes as the Officiating Director. Stokes previously held the position of the head of refereeing for eight years.
