The Lakers have various avenues to create salary cap flexibility below the luxury tax threshold, projected to be $165 million. One feasible approach involves declining the $16.5 million team option for Malik Beasley and waiving Mo Bamba's non-guaranteed contract worth $10.3 million.
The deadline for making decisions on these two players' contracts is Thursday.
If the Lakers successfully sign Brown, they would still have the opportunity to retain restricted free agents Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura, along with unrestricted free agent D'Angelo Russell.
Although Brown might receive a larger contract from a team with available cap space, the Nuggets can only offer him a deal starting at approximately $7.8 million.
In the recent playoffs, Brown showcased his crucial contribution to the NBA championship run by averaging 12.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 26.5 minutes per game.
His regular-season averages marked 11.5 points, 4.1 boards, and 3.4 assists over 80 games.
