Cecil is a former basketball player. He was a member of the Tar Heels' 1982 NCAA championship team as a sophomore with future Hall of Fame members James Worthy and Michael Jordan.
Exum senior was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the ninth round of the 1984 NBA Draft, securing the 194th overall pick.
However, it was in Australia where Exum truly found his place on the court. He spent seven years in the NBL, being a valuable asset for teams such as the North Melbourne Giants, Melbourne Tigers, and Geelong Supercats.
Throughout his NBL career, Cecil Exum maintained averages of 10.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
The 60-year-old visited Belgrade this past season and attended several EuroLeague games in Stark Arena to spectate his son Dante playing live.
"I feel at home. A beautiful feeling inside and outside the arena. Great fans, who are on their feet from the first moment, cheering for their team and for my son. Beautiful evening, I'm delighted," Exum senior shared his Belgrade experience with Mozzart Sportafter Partizan's90-75 win over Olympiacos Piraeus in EuroLeague Round 30.
