Montenegrin coach Dejan Radonjic could have become the coach of Buducnost Podgorica, but nothing will come of it, reports RTCG.

Radonjic had long and intense negotiations with the club's management. In the end, he decided to reject the offer, according to the Montenegrin outlet.

His decision was largely due to the fact that fans wrote offensive graffiti addressed to him, which appeared on several Podgorica facades. The information transmitted by fan profiles on social networks, and then by RTCG, which first reported on Radonjic's return to Buducnost, mentions that the 53-year-old coach also received personal threats.

The fans resented Radonjic for making positive comments about Crvena Zvezda fans, whom Buducnost have accused of unsportsmanlike reception of their team.

Per the same report, Radonjic, who led Buducnostfor eight seasons, reaching the quarter-finals of the EuroCup twice, was about to have a significant budget at his disposal.

Since he parted ways with Panathinaikos at the end of February, Radonjic has been a free agent. The former coach of Red Star and Bayern Munich has reportedly received some offers from Spain, as well as interest from Turkish clubs.

Ultimately, Buducnost chose to sign Montenegrin expert Petar Mijovic, the club officially announced. In 2019, he succeeded Jasmin Repeas on the bench and won the Montenegrin league title. The following season, which was interrupted due to the COVID pandemic, he took over the team during the season and won the Montenegrin Cup.

Mijovic, 41, took over again at the end of last season, leading the squad to another domestic title, and will now have the opportunity to continue his work.
