Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving combine for 69 points as Mavs defeat Wolves
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving puton a scoring clinic on Sunday night to lead the Dallas Mavericks toa victory over the No. 1 seed in the West, the MinnesotaTimberwolves.
Doncic had 34 points, 8 reboundsand 6 assists to continue his push for this season's MVP award,while Irving scored 35 points built on 6 three-pointers, includingtwo late threes in the fourth quarter to steal the game fromMinnesota.
The Wolves were leading 106-100with four minutes left before Irving made the game-tying andgo-ahead three-pointers with 2:59 and 2:05 remaining in thecontest.
Dallas squeezed out this windespite playing severely undersized, with only one big in DwightPowell playing all game against Minnesota'stoweringfrontcourt. The Mavs were without 7-foot rookie Dereck Lively II(sprained right ankle) and German center Maxi Kleber (left toedislocation).
It was an important win for theMavs, who lost the first two meetings between the two teams. Theycurrently have the sixth-best record in the Western Conference(22-15).
Anthony Edwards was spectacularyet again for the Wolves, finishing with 36 points and 10 reboundsdespite the loss. Karl-Anthony Towns added 24 and 7, while RudyGobert pulled down 17 boards as the Wolves dropped to 25-10 for theseason. Minnesota is still sitting in first place in the West, butthe Denver Nuggets are just one game back.
