Williams tweeted that it was a great day after the news of him parting ways with Panathinaikos was made official. He later said that there are too many problems in the organization, and that Ergin Ataman, as good as he is, won't be able to fix them all.

Derrick Williams has played for five different teams in the last five seasons in Europe. He was let go by the Panathinaikos Athens but he's happy now.

After it was officially announced that the two sides parted ways, Williams posted a tweet adding a gif of relief, saying "It’s a great day .. the best day in months."

When one Olympiacos Piraeus fan later commented that the player made the wrong choice selecting PAO as his next team last year and getting lured by the club's money, Williams directly addressed the claim in his next tweet.

"They weren't even offering the most so that part isn't true," he said. Williams believes that just hiring a new head coach in Ergin Ataman won't help the organization overcome every issue that it's been facing recently.

"I will say that there are many problems that I don't think Ataman can fix, and he is one of the best out there. If he does, I'll take my hat off to him," the forward tweeted.

Last year with Panathinaikos, Williams averaged 12.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists for 12.1 PIR, playing all 34 EuroLeague's regular-season games.
