Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv's star guard Lorenzo Brown guided the Spanish national team to the EuroBasket 2022 title last year. This year, he won't be able to help the squad in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Brown led Spain in points and assists last September, helping the young roster flourish. Now, the 32-year-old guard announced on Twitter that he won't help his teammates this summer due to an injury:

Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate with my brothers from Team Spain in this year's FIBA World Cup.

I suffered an injury in last year's gold medal run in the FIBA EuroBasket that was never given time to heal, having to immediately jump right into my 2022-2023 EuroLeague season.

I have met with three separate specialists who have told me that continued rest and treatment are the only way for me to return to 100% for this upcoming season.

My hope is to have the honor of representing Spain in the 2024 Summer Olympics and after much thought and consultation, I believe this decision gives me the best opportunity to help our pursuit for gold next summer in Paris.

I am forever grateful to the Spanish Federation, Coach Scariolo and his staff, my teammates, and most importantly, the fans, for embracing me last summer with open arms.

I hope to have an opportunity to make them proud once again.
