Recently, his popularity caused an incident with a pop music icon.
TMZ Sports report that Britney Spears was hit in the face during her encounter with Wembanyama.
The incident happened at the Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel in Las Vegas at around 8:30 PM local time. As Spears was entering the restaurant, she spotted Wemby inside and went over to him to ask whether they could take a photo together.
After she tapped Wembanyama on the shoulder, the Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs - Damian Smith - backhanded her, knocking her to the ground.
Smith later apologized to Spears and her crew, explaining that he didn't know who she was and was just doing his usual job. Despite the fact, Spears' team decided to file a police report against Smith for battery.
The case is not being handled as a criminal matter, TMZ Sports report, because the local authorities determined that Smith wasn't purposefully trying to hurt Spears and was defending Wembanyama instead.
