Shams Charania from The Athletic initially reported that the 26-year-old has agreed on a three-year $33 million deal with the Mavs as a restricted free agent.
Due to his free agency status, his former team - Portland Trail Blazers - had the right to match the offer from Dallas and give the player the exact same contract if they wanted to keep him on the roster.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN, Portland exercised their right and will keep Thybulle on a three-year $33 million deal.
The deal includes a 15% trade kicker and a player option. Additionally, 50% of annual salary has to be paid by October 1st, Chris Haynes from Bleacher Report notes.
The franchise now faces a bigger issue as its brightest star Damian Lillard has asked for a trade. The organization is currently exploring scenarios on how the superstar guard could be moved while getting a significant reward in return.
