Although the season ended a month ago, the Greek club still hasn't paid all the money to its players. According to Michalis Gulenoglou from Gazzetta.gr, there are debts as big as three or four months of unpaid salary.
The Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) has issued 15 bans since the start of this past season to AEK due to the club's debts, the most out of any organization on the list. It's especially significant since AEK started the 2022-23 season ban-free after negotiating a debt repayment structure with their former players.
Some of the bans are expected to be removed in the future but the situation remains largely the same. The club now has until the end of the summer to present the required documents that no player is owed by the organization. If the documents are not presented, AEK risk not getting their license to compete in the Greek League approved.
While the financial issues are being taken care of, the club is looking forward to the next season at the same time. The organization has hired a new head coach - former Zalgiris Kaunas and Real Madrid specialist Joan Plaza.
AEK will compete in Group D of next year's Basketball Champions League alongsideMHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari, and King Szczecin.
