Marcus Smart got traded when he was asleep. The player revealed he got emotional following the move from Boston to Memphis.

Talking on the Chris Vernon Show, the 29-year-old shared that he was woken up by his fiancee, telling him that he's been traded. Previously, Smart fell asleep with the news that a Malcolm Brogdon trade was being finalized.

The deal ultimately fell through and it was Smart who was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in the end. The guard admitted he cried after getting traded.

"I did cry. I have cried, I have cried... I've cried because of the special relationships that I have with the guys," he explained. "I grew up with Jaylen [Brown] and Jayson [Tatum], and [was there for] their whole career. All these other guys, even Al [Horford]."

"A lot of those guys - Al, Jaylen, a couple, Jayson ans those guys - when my mom passed away, they were there. They've been through tough times with me so it was tough," Smart shared. "Not only that - I've been there my whole life."

However, the guard is now excited to start a new chapter in his basketball career and feels like he's already achieved what he could with the Boston Celtics.

"That was tough but I also cried because I was excited as well. Now I get to start a new journey in my life. I've done everything that I could do with that team. Jaylen and Jayson are great players and it's their time to grow into their own. That's ok, that's what it is. Like I said, it was just tough leaving those guys," Smart concluded.
