Jaleen Smith's term with ALBA Berlin is over, but the American-born guard with the Croatian passport already has received interest from other teams.

Jaleen Smith has left ALBA Berlin and is officially a free agent after spending two seasons with the German club.

The player's agent Misko Raznatovic announced his client has been released by ALBA (with one year more left on his contract), and that his next destination will be known by the following week.

In August 2021, Smith was the reigning German BBL MVP with MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, and came to play for the first time in the EuroLeague.

Last season, the American-born Croatian international averaged 13.2 points, 3.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds in the BBL, whilst producing 11.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in the EuroLeague.

According to Walla Sport's Arale Weisberg, Smith has already been targeted by two teams - Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and Virtus Segafredo Bologna.

The Italian side parted ways this summer with guards Milos Teodosic, Ife Lundberg and Nico Mannion. Per the report, Smith is also considered a potential replacement for Darrun Hilliard in Tel Aviv, since Brian Angola's transfer wasn't completed due to the player failing his medical exams.

The Israeli team believes that in light of his physical strength and his excellent defensive play, he will be able to complement Wade Baldwin and Lorenzo Brown, forming a trio of guards that can play together.

While Alex Poythress' future looks uncertain, Maccabi are expected to open the season with seven non-domestic players (Lorenzo Brown, Wade Baldwin, Jaleen Smith or another guard, Bonzie Colson, James Webb, Josh Nebo and Alex Poythers or another big man).
