Brazil have announced a 16-men roster that will enter training camp in Sao Paulo on July 27.
Credit: FIBA Credit FIBAThe coaching staff of the Brazilian national team released the list of 16 names that will present themselves for training sessions aimed at the World Cup in Japan, Philippines and Indonesia, starting on August 25.
It is a list with different generations of basketball players in Brazil, some more experienced, others who are up-and-coming and some who will be part of the future of the national team.
Star guards Marcelinho Huertas and Yago Mateus are among 25 players Brazil have named in their preliminary squad for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
Huertas, who played for Lenovo Tenerife in Spain, has featured at every World Cup since 2006 in Japan while Yago just completed a sensational season with Ulm in Germany, where he was MVP of the Basketball Bundesliga Finals.
Other players that have World Cup and Olympic experience that have been named include NBA-experienced guard Raul Neto, sharpshooter Vitor Benite of Spanish side Gran Canaria, and Yago's Ulm teammate, Bruno Caboclo.
Also included are Basketball Champions League Americas winners with Brazil club, Franca. They are George de Paula, Reynan Camilo, Lucas Dias, and Marcio Santos.

After the training period in the country, the team travels to Australia, where it will play between August 14th and 17th, in Melbourne, against Australia, South Sudan and Venezuela. Then, on the 20th and 21st of August, it takes on Italy and Serbia for the Solidarity Cup, in Shenzhen, China.
After the five friendlies, Brazil lands in Jakarta on August 23 and makes its World Cup debut on the 26th, against Iran. Completing Group G are Spain and Ivory Coast. The World Cup will be broadcast by ESPN in Brazil.
The two best teams advance to the second stage, carrying the results obtained in the initial phase and crossing with Group H, from Canada, France, Latvia and Lebanon.
To guarantee a place in Paris 2024 for the World Cup, Brazil needs to have at least the second-best campaign in the Americas in the tournament. Other teams from the continent are USA, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
In 2019, Brazil advanced to the second round with victories over Greece, Montenegro and New Zealand, and then fell to the USA and the Czech Republic. Without getting the Olympic vacancy via the World Cup, they played the Split Pre-Olympic tournament, where they lost to Germany in the final.
