Unfortunately, our Brazilian point guard pulled his exit clause in his contract and ended the two-year deal early," the official announcement reads.
According to the same report, dos Santos received multiple offers from abroad, with financial packages that far surpassed Ulm's salary offer.
The specific EuroLeague team that the 24-year-old Brazilian will join remains undisclosed as Ulm did not provide details.
"We are very happy for Yago. He was able to excel in his first season in Europe, and we are excited to see how he will do in the EuroLeague," Ulm sports director Thorsten Leibenath said. "It was to be expected that it would be difficult to keep the German League Finals MVP. We would have loved to keep enjoying his refreshing style of play, but at the same time, we wish him the best in his new challenge."
Ulm was the first career stop for dos Santos outside of his home country of Brazil.
Last season, the 1.75-meter point guard started all 66 games in the German League, EuroCup, and German Cup, scoring 944 points in all competitions with a three-point percentage of 39.1%.
Ulm provided the biggest surprise on the domestic front this past season, as the EuroCup team became the first German League club placed in a seventh regular-season position to win the championship. The team got to defeat the squads placed in first, second, and third positions on the way to the trophy.
Ulm secured the title by defeating Telekom Baskets Bonn in the final series.
During the award ceremony, the BBL named Yago dos Santos as the Finals MVP. The Brazilian guard averaged 16.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists over four games, including 25 points and eight assists in the series-deciding Game 4.
Dos Santos is the first player from Brazil to win the German League Finals MVP, which has been handed out since 2005. He is the second South American player to receive such recognition, as Uruguayan guard Jayson Granger took the award in 2022 for ALBA Berlin.
