"Hello, fans in China. This is Li Kaier. I'm so happy to announce that I would be representing China in the World Cup. I'm really proud and honored to wear the Team China jersey," Anderson announced on his Weibo account.
Even though the rules are stricter than in most other countries, Anderson fits the bill to be a Chinese citizen. His maternal grandmother was born to a Chinese father and Jamaican mother, making Anderson one-eight Chinese.
Back in 2018, Anderson's family tracked down their relatives in China after his mother found out that her grandfather is from Xinmu New Village in Longgang, Shenzhen.
Anderson was given a Chinese name back then - Li Kaier.
Last season, Anderson averaged 9.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game in 69 appearances for the Timberwolves.
