Tim Cato from The Athletic reports that the 24-year-old Slovenian was asked to "decrease his preferred playing weight this summer."

During the summer, Doncic often posts about working out with the personal coach, as his weight and conditioning have been two big topics in recent years.

After Doncic played for Slovenia in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, leading his country to a fourth-place finish, the Mavericks starreportedlyshowed up to training camp weighing 260 pounds (118 kilograms) – far exceeding his preferred playing weight of 230 (104 kg).

"I had the Olympics, took three weeks off, and I relaxed a little bit. Maybe too much," Doncic told ESPN in December 2021.

Doncic is now set to represent Slovenia in the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup.

I absolutely believe he'll start next season looking as good as he's ever been," Cato continued. "Keeping that up for an entire season is the hard part. I believe he can, but it won't be shown in the number of stairs run, or weights and bars pressed this summer."

"It'll be the quiet, unsung maintenance of those newfound habits when the grind of the sport's long season is most taxing," Cato added.

Last season, Doncic averaged 32.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game in 66 appearances for the Mavericks.
