In an interview with Fabian Garcia from Basquet Plus, Facu said that his decision wasn't based on money.
"I'm not going to be stupid, but my decisions are not going to be based mainly on money. I put many more things on the scale. Money is a factor, but not the main one. That's how it went," Campazzo told.
"I feel at home in Madrid, I have many things linked to Real Madrid - on and off the court - and I felt that it was the place where I had to try to be. I had other offers but I think that there were more positive things about Madrid overall," he explained. "In the end, I didn't doubt it for a second."
Campazzo arrives at a club that has just won the EuroLeague. Position by position, he will replace Nigel Williams-Goss who in turn came back to Olympiacos Piraeus.
"When talking about Madrid, you always have the highest expectations. You try to be in contention to win the EuroLeague, the Super Cup, the Copa del Rey, and the ACB. To get there and win it," he said about the goals for the upcoming season.
"That is the responsibility and pressure of playing for Madrid. It won't be an exception [this time either]. They come from winning the Euroleague, but when a [new] season begins, you set the same goal as during the previous one," Campazzo continued. "I feel super motivated and excited to be there. The adaptation process will not be difficult."
Campazzo will have more time to prepare for the upcoming season as the Argentinian national team did not achieve the right to participate in the 2023 FIBA World Cup after a fiasco in the qualifiers when they lost in the last game against the Dominican Republic.
Argentina will miss the World Cup for the first time since 1982. The guard admits that the unexpected ending was difficult for the entire team.
"It was a very hard blow. It was a tough locker room [after the game], too," Campazzo admitted. "It was a game that we had to win to qualify. It was a final for us because of how everything happened. It was tough after the game."
I had to go [and play] with Crvena Zvezda two days later and it was a bit difficult for me to practice and stay focused. It had never happened to me. That pain will always be there. That has to be our fuel for what is to come," he concluded.
