Torrance, California-born swingman shot 39.9% on three-pointers with the G-League affiliates for the Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards last season.
The 25-year-old averaged 10.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists over 33 G-League games in 2022-23.
Following an undrafted journey in 2021, after four years spent at San Diego State University, Schakel is now eyeing the 2024 summer opportunity to join the German NT through the single naturalized slot available to each country.
However, this would also depend on Germany's success in the FIBA World Cup 2023 or Olympic Qualifying Tournaments next summer.
Gordon Herbert's team has already welcomed Nick Weiler-Babb as their naturalized player for the FIBA EuroBasket 2022. He has also made the extended list this summer.
