As reported by Tom Friend from Sports Business Journal, the league laid off dozens of people as part of increasing focus on emerging areas of growth.
The employees include both long-time and short-time workers. One of the people that will no longer be working for the NBA is Director of Team Business & Partner Communications Mike Wade, who worked for the league for 17 years.
"We are reallocating resources to our priority business areas, including digital and international growth, and that has resulted in the elimination of a number of positions at the league office," the league's Chief Communications Officer Mike Bass told the Sports Business Journal.
The layoffs were focused on positions that do not directly generate income, Friend writes. It is not expected that these layoffs will affect other positions within the organization.
