As Barrett stated, Murray's workload is being monitored, and the final decision will be made in the future.
He's coming in after a very, very long season, coming off of an injury, and he's here," Josh Lewenberg from TSN quotes Barrett. "But I think, at the same time, we need to be smart with him. He's coming in very tired, so we've gotta really watch him and work with our therapy team and make the right decision for him medically."
"He looks good so far. It's tough. You've almost gotta save him from himself. He doesn't stop. One of the years, he was practicing one hour before practice and one hour after practice by himself.
You're having two practices a day, so you take the shoes away after practice, and he gets off the court, and then I see him on the other side shooting in bare feet.
So it's gonna be tough managing him, but in the end, we're going to make the right decision for him. Obviously, he wants to play, he wants to be here, we want him here," Barrett added.
Murray played for Canada once in 2015 during Pan American Games.
The Basketball World Cup will take place in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia from August 25th to September 10th and will be hosted by the three nations for the first time.
During the FIBA Basketball World Cup, Canada will play in Group H and face Latvia, Lebanon, and France.
If Canada advances to the Second Round, it will meet teams from Group G, consisting of Iran, Spain, and Ivory Coast.
In the title-winning season last campaign, Murray averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game in 65 regular season appearances for the Nuggets.
