Barea enters the coaching side for the first time in his native Puerto Rico.
The 39-year-old finished his professional playing career in July 2022.
The 1.78-meter (5 ft 10 in) floor general spent 11 of his 14 NBA seasons in Dallas. He helped the Mavericks win the NBA championship in 2011.
Barea averaged 8.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists across 831 NBA appearances with the Mavs (2006-11, 2014-20) and Minnesota Timberwolves (2011-14).
His single European experience involves a short stint with Movistar Estudiantes in 2021.
Barea has already tried himself in a coaching position. Mavericks hired him as a player development coach in 2021.
