Panathinaikos Athens welcomed Sani Becirovic back to their ranks in June, a move that coincided with significant acquisitions orchestrated by him in his role as the sports director.

Among these transformations was the recruitment of Ergin Ataman, who left Anadolu Efes Istanbul to try his luck in Greece. Despite not holding his current position at that point, Becirovic revealed his active participation in discussions with Ataman.

"I was involved, even though I wasn't officially part of the club at the time," Becirovic told Martin Pavcnik of Sport Klub. "The club had two names available for the head coach position. They were Pablo Laso and Ergin Ataman. We quickly concluded that the latter is a much better solution.

"I respect both of them, but first feedback and Ataman's truly exceptional energy tipped the scales in his favor. In addition, we know in what position he took over Anadolu Efes years ago. They were in crisis, but he led them to two EuroLeague titles."

During the offseason, PAO bolstered their roster by adding 11 players, including well-known names like Kostas Sloukas, Luca Vildoza, Juancho Hernangomez, and Mathias Lessort, among others.

Does this complete the team lineup?

"Not quite yet," Becirovic responded. "We have high goals, and we have the resources. If there is an opportunity, we will go to the market for another basketball player. It can happen that another prominent name will strengthen the team."
