It was in the first quarter of the game that the unexpected occurred. As Alimpijevic moved about, his pants suddenly gave way. His underpants and thighs were on full display, yet remarkably, amidst the millions watching, no one seemed to notice.
Former Bursa bench boss recounted the incident with a chuckle during the Jaomile podcast.
"I could literally hear my pants snap as I moved into a stance," he recalled with a grin.
Swiftly, he took refuge in his chair, hoping to remain inconspicuous.
"I felt my pants at the back, and there was already a significant tear. Maybe the front wasn't as damaged, but my thighs were exposed," Alimpijevic recalled.
With no option to call a timeout in the first quarter, he improvised by squirming in his chair, avoiding the view from the scoreboard.
"I informed my staff that they needed to find replacement pants. I needed just a couple of minutes," he explained.
His management initially struggled to comprehend the urgency until they saw the undeniable evidence.
"Behind us, there were board members from Turkey, also sponsors and their families."
Amusingly, the solution awaited him in the tunnel during the break between the quarters.
"To my surprise, the management personnel were there, all three of them in their boxers. It was quite a p**n scene," Alimpijevic chuckled.
He then swiftly acquired a pair and returned to the court.
Despite the comedic incident, the torn pants failed to bring luck to the Serbian coach, as Virtus emerged victorious, securing a place in the 2022-23 EuroLeague.
