Joe Dumars, the NBA's Executive Vice President, disclosed that Edwards had impulsively swung a chair in frustration while exiting the court, accidentally hitting two bystanders.
The league arrived at this decision following a thorough assessment, which was postponed until after a legal inquiry into Edwards' behavior had concluded.
The charges against Edwards were ultimately dropped last month, paving the way for the NBA to impose the financial penalty.
Throughout the Nuggets' 4-1 series victory against the Timberwolves, Edwards averaged 31.6 points per game.
