In a greatly awaited warm-up match leading up to the FIBA World Cup 2023, Germany emerged victorious against Canada, finishing the close game at home with a final score of 86-81.

The decisive moment unfolded in the closing minute, with the scoreboard deadlocked at 79-79.

Franz Wagner, the talented wing from the Orlando Magic, delivered a pivotal long-range shot that proved to be the defining highlight of the match, pushing the score to 82-79 and ultimately securing the victory.

Wagner finished the game with 18 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 steals. He scored 7 points in the fourth quarter.

"That was a very good first half for us offensively," Wagner said post-game. "We also took the next step defensively. In the second half, we had to do better, especially when losing possession against physical defense and in the transition. It was important that we were able to counter the 0-13 run."

Daniel Theis posted 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Dennis Schroder contributed with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 27 EFF.

Andreas Obst was another German NT player in double-digits, scoring 15.

Lu Dort led Team Canada with a team-high 14 points, while RJ Barrett scored 12 points.

"I'm still adjusting to the FIBA rules," Dort said after the game. "I'm just coming out here to do my job, playing defense. If I can use all of my fouls, I'll use all of my fouls. For the team, it's really just to keep playing with each other. We're here, we've got a lot of games to keep getting better, and we'll keep attacking them."

Germany: Franz Wagner 18 (4 STL), Daniel Theis 17 (5 REB), Dennis Schroder 16 (7 REB, 8 AST), Andreas Obst 15.

Canada: Lu Dort 14, RJ Barrett 12, Nickeil Alexander-Walker 11, Kelly Olynyk 11.
