A video has spread online that shows two Finnish players fighting in the hotel lobby at the Summer Universiade in Chengdu, China. The two players in the video were identified as Touko Tainamo and Eemi Luukkonen.
Multiple people from the team witnessed the incident but let the fight continue, Salon Seudun Sanomat reports.
Once the news broke out, the team's leader Jukka Tirri confirmed to the outlet that the fight happened in the hotel where all participating teams stayed and shared that it was discussed within the team, but the video surfaced only recently.
The Finnish Basketball Association has opened up an investigation, the organization announced on Sunday.
Finland finished their participation in the Universiade on August 6th, placing 5th in the final standings after defeating Romania - the highest place in the country's history.
"In competitions under the jurisdiction of the Olympic Committee, all team members sign a team membership contract which defines how the players should act in such cases. The Olympic Committee absolutely condemns all violence," said Leena Paavolainen, the head of the Finnish Olympic Committee.
