Batum is currently under a 2-year $22 million contract with the Clippers, set to make just over $11 million next season. It seems that the upcoming campaign will be Batum's last overall on a basketball court. According to his wife, Aurelie, the 34-year-old intends to not only retire from the national team, but from playing professionally overall.
"Nico has decided to end his career (NBA and French team) after the Olympics, so this is his last season with the Clippers," she replied to a tweet about Gregg Popovich's speech about the importance of his family during his induction to the Hall of Fame.
That tweet ends any discussion on whether Batum will be seen again in the French league or elsewhere in Europe.
The 25th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, Batum carved out a memorable career that includes 17 pro seasons until now and six medals with the French NT in summer tournaments. Most recently, he won silver at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, to go along with two bronze medals in the 2014 and 2019 World Cups as well as a gold medal in the 2013 EuroBasket.
