The player is suffering from a foot injury and will not be able to fully recover before the international tournament, BasketNews sources indicate.
Porzingis did not play in any of the friendly games this summer.
Porzingis has since confirmed the information on his personal Twitter account.
"After several weeks of recovery and a repeat MRI examination, the plantar fasciitis of my foot still prevents me from being on the field in full readiness," the player wrote. "This joint decision has been made by both the medical staff and coaching staff of the national team, as well as the Celtics team - with the advice and opinion that it is now necessary to continue the recovery process."
Several days ago, a report came out from German journalist Rupert Fabig that named similar concerns about Porzingis' World Cup status. The Latvian Association strongly denied the report.
With the star center out of the rotation, Davis Bertans will make his debut in a friendly match against Finland on Wednesday, August 16th. The forward has been dealing with a calf injury at the beginning of training camp but will be ready to compete, he revealed in an interview with Sportacentrs.
Latvia will play in Group H in the World Cup with Canada, Lebanon, and France.
