In a tight 40-minute contest, the underdogs won 94-88 (27-26, 21-21, 18-19, 28-22), handing Canada their first loss in the preparatory cycle for the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Towns was first in scoring with 20 points on 6-for-9 shooting, grabbed 6 rebounds, and drew 7 fouls, but turned the ball over 7 times. LJ Figueroa had 20 points, Angel Delgado joined with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.

It was the first game Towns played for the Dominican Republic since 2013 in the FIBA Americas Championship when he was just 17 years old.

Canada rested their starters throughout the entire second half, letting the players who had previously received less playing time show their skills. Lu Dort (13 points), Trae Bell-Haynes (12 points), Dillon Brooks (10 points), and RJ Barrett (10 points) were the top four scorers for Canada.

Barrett and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who previously led the team in minutes played, appeared on the court for only 13 minutes each.

The Dominican Republic will play in Group A in the World Cup with Angola, Italy, and the Philippines. Meanwhile, Canada will compete in Group H with Latvia, Lebanon, and France.
