Hill said that players will not be accepted purely by their name next summer, and a lot of the members of this year's roster will compete in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as well.

After finishing 7th in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, Team USA will look to rebound and win the gold medal once again. Despite the fact that the 2023 FIBA World Cup starts in less than a week, the conversation in the US still often revolves around what will happen next year when the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will be held.

Team USA is currently in Abu Dhabi, UAE, playing friendly games before the World Cup starts on August 25th. The 12-man squad for the upcoming tournament features 12 NBA players who haven't represented their country internationally before.

In an interview with Harris Stavrou from Sport24, Team USA managing director Grant Hill revealed that the players who will wear the country colors this year will play next year as well, despite the desire to gather the best names for the Olympics.

"I remember 2006 with LeBron James, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade. All these guys back then, they weren't the players they became or the players they are today," he recalled.

"I can say that we are in a transition stage in our program, we'll see a lot of these guys next summer as well," Hill said. "They are not in their prime yet, but they're very hungry and want to be here. And they are really good. I'm excited to see their potential. Whoever is on the court for us, we feel we have the quality to achieve our goals."

Recently, basketball fans started to discuss whether LeBron James or Stephen Curry could play for Team USA for the last time in their careers alongside other well-known names, such as Jayson Tatum or Joel Embiid.

"First, we have to see how things will develop this month, how we will do in the World Cup. The truth is that we will probably see a number of players expressing their interest in playing in the Olympics throughout the course of the year, guys who are not currently here with us," Hill said.

"We will certainly have to make some difficult decisions. Let's see how things will develop because there are basketball players here who will really deserve this opportunity to represent our country next summer," he concluded.
