The league's investigation, which included an interview with Harden, confirmed that these comments referenced Harden's belief that the 76ers would not accommodate his request to be traded.
"Daryl Morey is a liar, and I will never be a part of an organization that he's a part of," Harden said during a visit to China. "Let me say that again. Daryl Morey is a liar, and I will never be a part of an organization that he's a part of."
According to a report from Shams Charania, the explanation of the whole situation would be a bit different.
In talking to the NBA investigators, Harden reportedly told them that he used the word "liar" to describe Daryl Morey not because he didn't offer him a richer deal in the offseason but because he had promised Harden to quickly trade him after he decided to opt-in for the final year of his contract.
Harden averaged 21.0 points, 10.7 assists, and 6.1 rebounds in 58 games this past season.
