US track and field star Noah Lyles made some controversial comments on Saturday about NBA basketball that echoed throughout the league. One of the league's stars has responded while representing Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

After winning the 200-meter title, Lyles was asked about his 100-200-meter double. In a colorful response, he said that this achievement is bigger than what other sports like to call it.

"The thing that hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA finals, and they have 'World champion' on their heads. World champion of what? The United States?" he said. "Don't get me wrong, I love the US at times, but that ain't the world."

"We have almost every country out here fighting, thriving, putting on their flag to show that they are represented," the athlete continued. "There ain't no flags in the NBA."

Asked about the comment that sparked a reaction from multiple NBA stars, Tyrese Haliburton - Indiana Pacers star guard who currently represents Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup in the Philippines - had his own point of view.

"I really don't understand the point of it because NBA is the best league in the world," Haliburton told the media after the game, via Georgios Zakkas from SDNA.

"It wasn't the most intelligent response. We're going to let that fly," he smiled.
