He couldn't help but make everyone laugh during the media press conference after Team USA's dominant 110-62 victory over Jordan.
"Ant-Man" was on track to test Team USA's single-game scoring record in FIBA competitions.
In a stylish move, Edwards set a new team-high in the Philippines by throwing down a spectacular windmill dunk that had the crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena on their feet.
Early in the third quarter, he had already scored 22 points, surpassing the previous tournament-high held by Paolo Banchero, who had 21 against New Zealand.
Edwards had already contributed 18 points in the first half alone, the highest among all Team USA players three games into the World Cup.
However, due to a substantial lead, coach Steve Kerr gave other players more playing time, and Edwards was benched for the rest of the game.
By the end of the match, he had accumulated a stat line of 22 points (8/16 FG), eight rebounds, and four assists in less than 19 minutes of play.
The ultimate Team USA record for both the FIBA World Cup and Olympic competition is held by Kevin Durant, who scored 38 points against Lithuania in the FIBA World Cup 2010.
When asked by BasketNews about the difficulty of surpassing this record, considering the rule differences between the NBA and FIBA, and who among the current roster has the best chance at it, Edwards gave a memorable response.
After a brief pause and a smile, he replied, "He's probably one of the greatest players, and that will be tough. But, I mean… I'm going to try."
Edwards had already garnered attention with his response to a question about Team USA's adjustment to FIBA rules.
"I always keep it simple and short. For me, it's just put the ball in the basket and get a stop," he said.
"I'm not sure what the coach thinks," he added, glancing at Steve Kerr to his right.
"That's why we love him. That's all we need from him," Steve Kerr chuckled.
Three games into the World Cup, Edwards leads team USA in scoring (16.3) and efficiency (16.7 EFF).
