During Wednesday's game against South Sudan, Simanic received a blow to the kidney area with just under two minutes remaining and could not continue the match.
After leaving the game, Simanic was sent to a hospital in Manila, where he underwent surgery during the night.
The player feels well, the kidney and all its functions are preserved, KSS announced. However, he will not play in the 2023 FIBA World Cup anymore.
"It was a huge shock for all of us, we could not have expected that such a blow could be not only painful but tragic. It's good that it's over," head coach Svetislav Pesic said. "The team was together all night, they were searching for extra blood because it was not possible to collect enough since Borisa was bleeding a lot. It ended well."
In three games with the team, Simanic averaged 1 point and 1 rebound per game in 6.5 minutes of playing time.
Earlier in the tournament, Filip Petrusev and Aleksa Avramovic got injured. Both players did not compete against South Sudan. They remain questionable for the upcoming game versus Italy.
