After the first day of the Second Round of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, four teams have already advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament. At the same time, eight teams remain in the fight to advance.

While Germany comfortably defeated Georgia, the USA struggled against Montenegro for 38 minutes before running off with the win in the end. Lithuania outscored Greece by 29 points in the second half en route to an easy win.

Meanwhile, Luka Doncic's Slovenia shocked Australia after not letting them lead for a single second en route to a playoff-clinching win.

As such, Slovenia, Lithuania, Germany, and the USA are now through to the next phase of the 2023 FIBA World Cup. All four teams play against each other on Sunday, September 3rd, (USA vs. Lithuania, Germany vs. Slovenia) to determine who will place 1st in their respective groups.

The four remaining teams in the two groups - Montenegro, Greece, Australia, and Georgia - have been eliminated.

The situation is much more interesting in the two other groups.

Even though they had a 16-point lead, Serbia lost to Italy once again, complicating their chances of advancing further. Now, they will have to beat the Dominican Republic, who wasted a lead of their own against Puerto Rico, to advance.

All four teams in Group I - Serbia, the Dominican Republic, Italy, and Puerto Rico - have the same winning record of 3-1, and they all have a chance to go to the quarterfinals. All four teams must win the next game on Sunday, September 3rd.

Italy plays against Puerto Rico at 10:00 CET, while the Dominican Republic meets Serbia at 14:00 CET. The winners of the two games will advance.

Serbia can only place 1st if they win and Puerto Rico wins The Dominican Republic can only place 1st if they win and Italy wins Italy can only place 1st if they win and Serbia wins Puerto Rico can only place 1st if they win and the Dominican Republic wins

A similar situation can be observed in Group L as well.

Friday was a day of upsets in the group. First, Latvia stunned the reigning world champions, Spain, and gave them their first loss of the tournament. Brazil, meanwhile, limited Canada to just 65 points en route to a sensational victory.

As such, all four teams have a winning record of 3-1 as well. On Sunday, September 3rd, Brazil plays against Latvia at 11:45 CET, while Spain squares off against Canada at 15:30 CET. The winners of the two games will advance to the quarterfinal stage.

Latvia can only place 1st if they win and Spain wins Canada can only play 1st if they win and Latvia wins Brazil can only place 1st if they win and Canada wins Spain can only place 1st if they win and Brazil wins

After the final games of the Second Round on Sunday, September 3rd, all eight qualifying teams will have a rest day the following day before the FIBA World Cup resumes on Tuesday, September 5th.
