The teams were tied at halftime, but Canada took their game up a notch in the second half. First, they outscored the opponents in the third quarter. Then, they defied all Slovenia's comeback attempts to get the crucial win.

The match was marred by numerous episodes when both Luka Doncic and the Slovenian team complained about referee decisions. Doncic even showed the money sign toward the FIBA representatives in the stands, implying that the officials have been bribed.

After not getting a call in the fourth quarter, Doncic received his second technical foul and was ejected.

Dillon Brooks, who was defending Doncic most of the time, got an unsportsmanlike foul in the first quarter, later received a technical in the fourth, and got ejected from the game as well.

With the win, Canada advances to a FIBA World Cup semifinal for the first time in the country's history. Meanwhile, Shai GIlgeous-Alexander became the first player with 30+ points and 10+ rebounds in a knockout game in the FIBA World Cup (since 1994).

SGA finished the game with 31 points on 8-for-12 shooting (1/4 3PT, 14/16 FT), 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. RJ Barrett added 24 points on 9-for-22 shooting and 9 rebounds.

Doncic, meanwhile, scored 26 points on just 8-for-20 shooting, grabbed 4 rebounds, made 5 assists, and recorded 2 steals, but turned the ball over 3 times and fouled out in 29 minutes of playing time.

Canada will play against Serbia in the quarterfinal, while Slovenia will match up against Lithuania in the Classification Round.
