Friday, September 8th, marked the semifinal day of the FIBA World Cup 2023, where four teams fought for the ticket to the grand final.

In the first game of the day, Canada met Serbia, who eliminated Lithuania in the quarterfinal after a stunning defensive performance.

The Serbian defensive prowess continued against Canada as well. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who previously dominated throughout the entire tournament, was kept to just 5 points and made only one field goal in the first half.

In the first matchup between the two teams ever, Bogdan Bogdanovic was prolific offensively, scoring 23 points on an efficient 8-for-12 shooting. Nikola Milutinov was a menace under the basket with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Canada's biggest lead was only 3 points, while Serbia led by as much as 17 in the fourth quarter. All Canada's attempts to come back were denied, and Serbia celebrated a monumental victory.

In the other game of the day, two incredible offenses met. It was the highest-scoring first half (60-59) in the FIBA World Cup since 2002. Interestingly, 2002 was also the last time Germany played in the World Cup.

Despite that, the underdogs kept on swinging and led throughout the entire second half.

Andreas Obst had a career game. The sharpshooter made 4 three-pointers and was fouled three times when he was attempting one.

Team USA trailed by as much as 12 points in the fourth quarter, and Team USA suffered their second defeat in the tournament.

Canada and Team USA will play for the bronze medal on Sunday, while Germany and Serbia will battle for the gold.

Every game of the World Cup can be streamed live or on-demand via the officialCourtside 1891 platform. (Streaming restrictions apply)
