"I really think LeBron is going to go," Pierce said on the Ticket & The Truth podcast. "I think LeBron will be there in the Olympics. This will be his final Olympics. I think Steph [Curry] will be there. I think he'll go to the Olympics. I think he's got to go."
One day after the World Cup wrapped up and Team USA finished in 4th spot, LeBron appears ready and determined to rejoin the squad for what is slated to be his 'Last Dance.'
According to The Athletic's Joe Vardon and Shams Charania, the three-time Olympian, two-time gold medalist, and the NBA's all-time leading scorer, is ready to commit for next summer and has also called multiple stars to essentially recruit them to join him the Paris venture.
Per the same report, James has spoken to Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum and Draymond Green, and they are all prepared to commit as well. Separately, Phoenix’s Devin Booker, Portland’s Damian Lillard, Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox and Dallas' Kyrie Irving also have serious interest in committing, league sources said.
James allegedly started the recruitment process before Team USA played its first game at the 2023 World Cup and his intentions were totally independent of the result that the team would obtain. The last time James suited up for his country's national team was in the 2012 London Olympics.
He represented Team USA in 3 Olympics (2004, 2008, and 2012), one World Cup (2006), and one FIBA Americas Championship (2007).
James has career averages of 13.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 17.2 EFF in 43 appearances for Team USA in FIBA competitions. In the 2022-23 campaign, James averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game in 55 contests for the Lakers.
Steph Curry, 35, has never played in the Olympic Games but won two World Cups in 2010 and 2014. James, Durant, and Curry have spoken to each other about one last USA run together, sources said.
Tatum, Green, and Lillard were all gold medalists in Tokyo, and Durant was the MVP of that team.
