During his arraignment, prosecutors revealed that the incident left Gondrezick with a fractured neck vertebra and a cut above her right eye.
Porter, 23, did not enter a plea during his brief court appearance and was released on $75,000 bail. He has been ordered to stay away from Gondrezick.
Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Mirah Curzer described the case as a serious instance of domestic violence, noting that Porter has a history of abusing Gondrezick, including a prior incident where he rammed his car into hers.
Porter is scheduled to appear in Manhattan court on Oct. 16, while the Rockets have preseason games and the regular season approaching.
According to a criminal complaint, Gondrezick told the police that Porter repeatedly punched her in the face with a closed fist, resulting in a cut above her right eye, bruising, and substantial pain. She also reported that Porter forcefully squeezed her neck with his hands, causing difficulty in breathing, redness, and bruising to her neck.
Hospital tests confirmed that Gondrezick, 26, had sustained a fractured neck vertebra.
The Rockets issued a statement on Monday, indicating that they were gathering information and had no further comment on the matter.
