Porter, 23, is facing charges of assault and strangulation since Gondrezick had a visible cut on her face and was experiencing neck pain. It has since been revealed that she sustained a broken bone in her neck as a result of the assault. Prosecutors have stated that Gondrezick informed them that Porter repeatedly struck her with a closed fist.
Porter was released on bail amounting to $75,000, and Gondrezick has been granted a full temporary restraining order against him by Judge Michael Ryan in Manhattan Criminal Court. The next court hearing is scheduled for October 16.
However, per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Rockets have contacted multiple teams to inquire about taking over Porter's contract, under which he’s set to make $15.9 million this year.
In deal scenarios using Porter’s contract, the Rockets would be using his salary to target a player under contract who can play immediately and help the team. In any case, the guard is not expected to attend the Rockets' training camp in early October.
At the same time, the NBA could potentially void Porter's contract for violating its domestic violence policy, as the league's investigation is just starting.
